NAME: Rick Germanson
HOMETOWN: Milwaukee, WI
MUSICAL TRAINING: Manhattan School of Music with Jaki Byard, Wisconsin Conservatory with David Hazeltine
FIRST GIGS: My first gigs were In Milwaukee/Chicago area. Saxophonist Frank Morgan took me on my first tour to Europe and then I moved to NYC after winning the American Pianists Association Competition in 1996.
MY MUSICAL INFLUENCES: Bud Powell, Wynton Kelly, Cedar Walton and Mulgrew Miller, and the people I have played with over the year like Pat Martino, Louis Hayes, Steve Nelson and Russell Malone.
LATEST MUSICAL PROJECTS: I’m currently working and recording as a sideman a lot.
FAVORITE PLACE TO GO IN NYC: Riding my bike on the West Side Highway bike path.
IN 2024 I HOPE TO: Record a new trio album.
WHY I LOVE PERFORMING AT THE ROXY BAR: I dig playing at the Roxy Bar because of the scene and the great piano, and that we can just go in and really hit!
